Adrift Adventures Employment - Hello from Moab!

Thank you for your interest in working at Adrift Adventures. We are very proud of the quality of services we provide and our commitment to excellence. Adrift Adventures has been in business since 1977. We provide an atmosphere where people feel safe, comfortable and are able to relax and enjoy their adventure. Many of our guests have been coming back year after year due to the wonderful experience they have had on the river with us.

Adrift Adventures requires all guides be at least l8 years old and have a minimum of Red Cross Advanced 1st Aid and CPR certification (or equivalent). Guides must have a professional attitude and be willing to learn and accept new ideas. Initiative is highly valued. Guides must work long hours, and must work well under pressure and be team players.

It is important to note that the position you are applying for includes many facets. Customer service is the most obvious and very important; however your duties will also include: safety procedures, rigging and de-rigging, maneuvering boats in flat water and whitewater, loading and unloading equipment, cleaning and repairing boats and equipment, completing paperwork, conforming to all government agency regulations, following company policies, risk management and providing first aid, cooking and related food services, recycling, managing garbage and trash, river rescue, entertaining guests, interpretation of the geology, history, flora and fauna, teaching our low impact camping and use of the outdoors philosophy, working outdoors in various weather conditions and supporting the entire Adrift Adventures organization.

Training: Training is done on site with our existing trips and crew. When you start work you’ll be working with our guides and receive instruction on rigging, food handling and how to row boats. We encourage all new guides to work on weekends or whenever possible to complete guide training requirements so they may obtain their license from the State of Utah. Guides generally in the Salt Lake or Colorado area, generally can get away for brief training segments. If not, no problem as you can complete training after you finish school or winter employment. Our season generally runs from March through the end of October. You’ll be asked to fill out a contract with your starting and ending dates.
First Aid: All guides are required to have a CPR and the full 40 hour Wilderness Medical class completed before starting work. This is required for all multi day trips. These classes can generally be completed in Moab; however they do fill up quickly. We encourage guides to have these classes completed before starting work. We prefer that you get your 40 hour class before you get to Moab but for those unable to do so there are a few classes on going in May; please inquire for information. You can also get your basic 8 hour CPR and First Aid online if you plan on doing just half and full day trips at: www.crpandfirstaid.net

Food Handlers: This class can be completed in Moab or online at: www.utfoodhandlers.com
Housing: Guides are required to find their own housing. Many of the guides get together and find apartments or local houses for rent.
Pay: New guides start at approximately $70 to $100 per day with pay increases for daily trips. Gratuities are generally collected by guides on trips. Multi day trip pay is based on experience and dealt with on a one on one basis. Pay based on experience with increases throughout the season.
